It is a tough transition, I have to tell you. Being back home with the wife and beagle, visiting with my Mom and Craig, seeing friends, gearing up to teach two writing classes, and going to the theater.
And by “tough” I really mean, good. It’s all good. I’m glad to be home, glad to be sleeping in my own bed again. The “tough” part kicks in when I think of re-establishing some of the things–this blog, for instance, and my various other social media activities–I was able to let go of for a bit.
Those things are good, too, but there is a balance to be struck, and I sort of feel like the old slider scales at the doctor’s office where the nurse would throw up an estimate, and then watch the little needle tip back and forth as she zeroed in on the final verdict.
As I work to zero in on a productive writing life (and, let’s face it, that weight fluctuates more than even my waistline) I want to take a minute to thank those of you who read this blog and send me notes and make comments or share with your friends when you find something here worth reading. I really do appreciate it, and my writing life is better because I’ve met some of you.

I’m sure I’ll share more about Wyoming in the coming weeks, but let me start by saying how blessed I feel for having the experience of writing for two weeks at the Brush Creek Ranch. Not only did I get a solid amount of work done, I really enjoyed the group of artists we had on-hand during our residency. Three writers, three visual artists, a composer, and a multi-talented filmmaker made for a lot of fun and loads of inspiration. This group of people was amazing. Each of them was talented and hard-working. Each was a joy to talk to and get to know.
Over the coming weeks, I plan to share some of their work with you and I hope you will check out their websites and blogs and whatever else you might stumble across. I think you will find them as intriguing and captivating as I did. My plan is to share their work with you on Fridays.
Until then, I have been pondering the subject matter and direction to take this blog. There are so many things on my mind and so many ways we could go. I hope you’ll stick around and be a part of this writing life, moving forward.
