Seeing Your Name in Print: Unboxing “Letters to Me”

I was asked to be a contributing author to a new anthology, Letters to Me – Conversations With a Younger Self. My copies of the book arrived today, and I thought I’d share with you the moment writers live for: seeing our work in print. You can read a little more about the book here. (Includes links to ordering a copy, or ten, for yourself!) #book #video #newbook #letterstome #unboxing

    Words Matter

I received a link in my email this weekend, with the following video featured, and the brief intro: “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” I chose the business name, Words Matter, because I believe they do. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did. And, thanks to Lou for sharing it. #howyousay #creativewriting #whatyousay #video #wordsmatter

Structure & Inspiration: Goal is Not a 4-Letter Word

I try to post the Unblocker prompts on Tuesday and Thursday, and post the video blog in the middle, but I wasn’t very good with reading the calendar this week. Today’s episode of The Three Minute Writer is dedicated to thinking about how we structure our writing lives. Check it out: [su_youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68MOl_2hiKM”] [/su_youtube] If you’ve missed prior episodes of the video blog (or want a quick w

Blog Supplemental: G+ for Writers, Part 2

Blogging about social media isn’t a regularly scheduled part of “Stories I Read, Stories I Tell” but I’ve had a few readers looking for more information about the new Google Plus (G+) social media outlet, and specifically, how G+ is, or is not, the right place for writers to network and mingle. G+ Circles First, there are some interesting things that G+ does. For me, being able to share content with a select number of “friends” (in G+ language, “circles”) in an easy manner is

    Monday Blog: G+ for writers…why I’m giving it a shot…

I really don’t want another social media distraction, but it turns out, I might need one. It really hit home for me this weekend, when Facebook Chat was playing games with our news feeds and attempts to chat with others. For all of the things Facebook gets right, there are really a number of very social things it gets terribly wrong. (Ken Mueller over at Inkling Media has a good post that sort of sums up my thoughts on Facebook Chat.) So. This morning, I jumped into the new G

Advice For Writers, And Other Ramblings

I had big plans for the summer. I really did. After I left the May writing residency at Queens University of Charlotte, this is what I planned to accomplish: Deep revision of the first 1/3 of my novel (Chapters 1-5 as it now stands) Finish first draft of the second 1/3 of the novel (it is about 80% written, but needs a lot of work, and a lot of “connections” work…) Edit and finish two short stories workshopped at the May residency and ready them for submission to literary mag
